Ten Tips For Homeschooling Creativity
Some home schooling ideas I had based on Albert Einstein’s Ten tips for creativity:
- Follow Your Curiosity:
Resist rigidity. Use, but don’t limit yourself to workbooks. Find ways to go deeper into subjects of interest to your children. - Perseverance is Priceless:
Perseverance is also not optional when it comes to learning or mastering a subject or skill. The value of teaching your children to keep at it cannot be underestimated. - Focus on the Present:
Make the most of today. We have no guarantee that we have tomorrow anyway. - The Imagination is Powerful:
Encourage your children to dream, think and create. - Make Mistakes:
Mistakes are inevitable, and we all make them. They’re essential to learning and nothing to be embarrassed by. Celebrate them. - Live in the Moment:
I know it’s hard by avoid multi-tasking and be truly present with your children. - Create Value:
Avoid busywork when home schooling. Some assignments aren’t worth your or your student’s time. - Don’t Expect Different Results:
Doing the same thing over and over again yields the same outcomes. To get a different outcome, try something different. Experiment! - Knowledge Comes from Experience:
There’s knowledge that comes from books, and there’s knowledge that comes from living and doing. Explore both. - Learn the Rules and Then Play Better:
Published in 1884, The Seven Laws of Teaching is a worthwhile read and unpacks the “rules” behind successful teaching and learning.
