Health Update – May 13, 2019

Logan: Good news: Logan’s surgery was successful. The entire tumor was removed. He was released from OHSU and returned to his home this last Friday. Pray for continued healing as he recovers with the help of his family.

Myself: Good news: I just received lab results and found that this second round of chemo is doing its job, keeping my “light chains” in remission. This means the “amyloid factory” responsible for producing the proteins attacking my kidneys, heart, and gastro system is slowing down. My organs are getting a chance to rest and restore.

I met with my renal doctor last Thursday and he said my kidney function is improving. I’m not heading toward dialysis. Earlier on Thursday I had an echocardiogram. While it still showed moderate heart damage, the damage is not progressing. One of the side effects of a chemo drug I’m taking is the possibility of further damage to the heart. In my case that is not happening!

My gastro system issues, while not completely under control, have greatly improved. I’m absorbing more and more nutrition from the food I’m eating. I’m gaining strength and experiencing more energy. So much so, Jenny and I were able to get away for a brief vacation over Mother’s day. This was something neither one of imagined would ever be possible when I was in a wheel chair just a few months ago.

Thank you all for your prayers! They are instrumental and being used by God in my life. Please continue to pray for:

  • continued effectiveness of the chemo, that the “amyloid factory” would be shut down completely.
  • absorption of the nutrients from the food and supplements I’m working back into my diet.
  • healing of my heart in order to qualify for a stem cell transplant if recommended by my oncologist.

You’re being part of my journey means so much to me and is a continual source of encouragement and hope. Again, thank you!

  Because of the LORD’s loving devotion we are not consumed,

for His compassions never fail.

They are new every morning;

great is Your faithfulness!

 “The LORD is my portion,” says my soul,

“therefore I will hope in Him.” – Lamentations 3:22-24
