Curt’s Decision to Move Forward with a Stem Cell Transplant

Dear Friends and Family,

As you all know, we have been in a battle for the last several months since Curt was diagnosed with AL Amyloidosis. To say it has been rough is an understatement. We feel like we have been in an all-out war, and now we will go to the next level as we prepare for an autologous stem cell transplant on July 9. It will no doubt be the fight of his life as there are many risks. Curt will spend several weeks in the hospital as the transplant team will administer high dose chemo that will destroy his immune system to try to eradicate the amyloids and then attempt to rescue him by transplanting back his stem cells. He is a warrior. I’d want him in my fox hole. The courage he has shown in the midst of all the loses he has had is both inspiring and heartbreaking.

We are grateful for the gift of faith that sustains us. We know supernatural power has held us and will continue to flow through us by God’s Holy Spirit. We have so much to be thankful for, and we focus on the beautiful gifts that have come to us through adversity. Suffering in many ways has been our friend and daily companion. We don’t take things for granted; we live in the moment. My little four-year old granddaughter, Scarlett, searches our fields and brings me magical wildflowers that will heal her grandpa. She teaches us about faith and trust. We look for the silver lining and find it in these special and unexpected moments.

We appreciate the love, prayers, and generosity you have shown us. We are needy people and desperate for your intersession, a fragrant offering to God on our behalf.

Love,

Jenny

  5. Jenny,
I am convinced it is harder to be the loving onlooker and helpmate than it is the sick person. Thank you for this update and sharing with us the vulnerability and struggle you are facing and enduring. It is a privilege to uphold you both in prayer throughout what literally is the battle of your lives for life itself. God is faithful in it all. My prayer for you is that you feel that, know that and experience Him carrying you in His arms when you need Him to. His strength is made perfect in our weakness. But it’s only in suffering and weakness that we really KNOW that truth. Deep waters deepen our faith, trust and knowledge of Him like nothing else can. That is when we truly plumb the depths of His love for us and experience the fullness of His richness and vastness that awaits us in Him. There is nowhere we can go that He isn’t there with us. We are safe and secure in His arms no matter where or what life holds. We love you and are praying for you all through this. It is our privilege to do so.
