Westside Classes

Natalie Trust is teaching three classes on the Westside. The hosting location is a private home near exit 99W in Tigard. The exact address is given upon completion of the application process.

Classes

Art of Writing 1--9:00-10:00                   Grades 9-12

This course is designed to cover a variety of writing techniques, but will primarily focus on the creative aspect of writing. Informative and persuasive essays will be intermixed with poetry, short stories, and other creative writing exercises.

Textbooks will be provided in class.

Tuition: $275--Book & Materials Fees: $30

British Literature--10:15-11:15                Grades 8-12

Students will progress through British thought and culture; studying each link as it is reflected through the works read in class. We will cover seven classics, as well as a poetry unit. Key authors may include Dickens, Bronte, Carroll, Stevenson, and Austen. We will analyze literature through discussion, research projects, character analysis and dramatic presentations.

Tutition: $325--Book & Materials Fees: $60 

Writing Fundamentals--11:30-12:30         Grades 8-12

Students will learn different writing formats beginning with a basic paragraph and moving to five-paragraph essays and then to research papjs. MLA format will be taught and used to document research. Class will include a unit on creative writing as well.

Textbooks will be provided in class.

Enrollment Information

Admission to classes at Basic Skills is by application only. To apply, follow these steps:

  1. Click here to download the class application , or email us to request an application be mailed to you.   
  2. Complete the application and mail it, along with the $25 (per family) administrative fee, and other required components to Basic Skills.
  3. If you are a new family at Basic Skills, we will contact you to schedule an orientation meeting, at which time you will receive further enrollment information. If you are a returning student, the enrollment forms will be mailed to you.
