Special Needs
Basic Skills offers three services designed to support families with special needs children: The Privately Developed Plan (PDP), Special Needs Testing, and the Individualized Learning Program (ILP) described below.
INDIVIDUALIZED LEARNING PROGRAM (ILP)
For Successful Academic Achievement
Note: This program is not being offered for the 2013-2014 school year.
The ILP is a program designed for students 2nd
through 8th grade. It utilizes an integrated and innovative curriculum, small class size and a low student to teacher ratio enables students to experience academic success.
The fundamental areas of learning include:
• Academic achievement: reading, writing and mathematical skills
• Critical thinking, reasoning and problem solving
• Organization and study skills
• Perceptual and motor skills
• Motivation and goal attainment
• Memory, attention and concentration
• Creativity and self-expression
• Multi-sensory phonics program (Orton-
Gillingham)
An individual instructional plan is designed to maximize each student’s learning. Through classroom and small group interactive hands on multisensory instruction, all children will be given the opportunity to achieve their academic potential.
Our Individualized Program is enhanced by:
• Developing Christian character
• Small group tutorials
• Community service projects
• Low student to teacher ratio
Afternoon activities may include:
Science, Social Studies, Sign Language, Art, Drama, and Physical Education.
