Monday 9:00-10:30 British Literature and Advanced Writing
(1.5 Credits)
Students will progress through British thought and culture; studying each link as it is reflected through the works read in class. We will cover seven classics, as well as a poetry unit. Key authors may include Dickens, Bronte, Chaucer, Carroll and Austen. We will analyze literature through discussions, research projects, character analysis and dramatic presentations.
Because this is a 1.5 credit class, students will be expected to write logical, passionate, and preciously edited essays along with each novel we read. Specialized instruction will be provided for advancing each student’s writing skills.

Monday 10:45- 12:00- Interpersonal Communication

Students will learn the importance of excellent communication skills within the settings of the family, workplace, & our society. Students will study the developmentof the self-concept, non-verbal communication, conflict/resolution,listening, & various aspects of communication.
*This course will fulfill the communication credit required for students enrolled in the Basic Skills Diploma Program.

Monday 12:15-1:30- American History
(1 Credit)
Description: American history is full of amazing events. Each event influences a series of other events. Who really started the Civil War? What great accomplishments are attributed to past presidents? This class will begin with the Civil War, and take students through the industrial revolution and into modern America, helping them to understand complex events as the rise of American industrialism, the Great Depression, the Cold War, Vietnam War, Cultural Revolution of the 1960's, and will close by addressing some of the pivotal events that have occurred within the last several decades.
Projects, tests and papers will be required components in this class.
